What do cavers do? An easy-to-understand introduction.
Cavers go into caves.
Some caves have big entrances.
Some caves have small entrances.
Sometimes it can be scary! But don't worry, there are cool things inside.
If we're lucky, we see some pretty formations. This is flowstone.
This is a stalactite. It hangs tight to the ceiling.
This is a stalagmite. It grows up from the floor.
Usually, though, this is what we see.
We see many kinds of animals live in caves. There are bats.
There are crickets
There are salamanders.
There are spiders.
There are crayfish.
There are bugs.
People move differently underground.
Cavers climb.
Cavers crawl.
Cavers walk.
Cavers slide.
Usually, cavers get dirty.
Sometimes, we get really dirty.
Cavers try to help the cave. We clean up messes other people leave.
We study the creatures inside, but don't hurt them.
We use compasses to make maps of new places.
Cavers take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints, and kill nothing but time.
